The Stanbic Uganda Cup action continues to heat up as teams battle for a spot in the Round of 16. Police FC secured their place in the next round with a convincing 2-0 victory over Bright Stars. Meanwhile, Lugazi City also advanced after defeating Calvary FC 2-0 in a match held at Midigo Primary School in Yumbe.
Uganda failed to perform well at the Uganda International Badminton Championship, a highly competitive tournament held at Lugogo Indoor Stadium this weekend. The event attracted over 25 countries, with Indian players dominating most of the categories.
Uganda's efforts to finalize preparations for hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), jointly with Kenya and Tanzania, have gained momentum due to the ongoing construction work at the Hoima City Stadium.
The stadium is being constructed by the Turkish company, Summa.
After five months, the construction of the stadium has commenced, and the progress made so far is promising. Once completed, the facility is expected to accommodate 20,000 people.
The stadium is situated in Mparo Division, Kyariru Cell, within Hoima East, covering a total area of 34.9 acres. Of this land, 10 acres were generously donated by the family of the late Dr. Rujumba, another 10 acres were purchased by FUFA (Uganda Football Association), and the remaining 14.9 acres were acquired by the National Council of Sports at a cost of billions of shillings.
Currently, over 1,000 workers, the majority of whom are local residents, are actively involved in the construction efforts.
Upon completion, the Hoima Stadium will boast a range of modern facilities, including an athletics track, a training ground, a swimming pool, an indoor arena, and several other amenities.
This stadium is one of the facilities that will be used by CAF (Confederation of African Football) to host the 2027 AFCON in Uganda, alongside the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole and the Akii Bua Olympic Stadium in Lira.
The Buddu County won the Buganda Masaza Cup after defeating Buweekula County with a score of 1-0 last year.
The winning goal was scored in the early stages of the game by Mike Walaga, and this marked Buddu's third time winning the coveted trophy.
In an effort to promote talent among the youths, Ms. Daphine Rwakiiki organized a football tournament and a race between Mpuumudde and Lyantonde, which culminated in a penalty shootout.
