Sembabule, Uganda - In a strategic move to revitalize their football fortunes, Mawogola County has unveiled a new executive committee under the stewardship of County Leader Muteesa John Kankaka. The ceremony, held at Sembabule District, marks a fresh start for the team that failed to progress beyond the group stages in last year's Masaza Cup tournament 2024

Coach Rogers Lwebuga, a CAF C holder with a proven track record in schools football, has been appointed the new head coach of Kooki Ssaza ahead of the highly anticipated Buganda Masasa Cup.

He replaces Hakimu Nsibambi, who led the team in the previous season. With his wealth of experience in Ugandan football, Lwebuga is poised to lead Kkooki to new heights. As the new head coach, Lwebuga will work closely with his technical team that includes 1st Assistant Coach Muswaku Simon, 2nd Assistant Coach SSembulime Alloyious, Fitness Coach Muzeyi Juma, Goalkeeping Coach Luziga Asuman, and Team Doctor Mayengo Michael.

This formidable team will work together to ensure Kkooki’s success in the championship. Lwebuga’s impressive coaching resume includes leading Masaka SS to the round of 16 of the National Boys Football Championship in Ngora this year.

He has also had stints at Uganda Pentecostal University FC, Saint Paul SS in Fortpotal and Westville High School, guiding the latter to the national quarterfinals in 2023. His experience in school football has honed his skills in developing young talent and creating winning strategies.

Kooki is one of the few teams that have won the Masaza Cup. In 2006, they beat Bugerere 4-2 in a thrilling penalty shootout to clinch their only title.

In addition to his school football coaching experience, Lwebuga serves as an assistant coach at Tooro Province football team, which competes in the FUFA Drum. This role has given him valuable insight into the dynamics of provincial football and the importance of teamwork and discipline.

As a player, he honed his skills at New Villa Football Club and Kitara Football Club in the FUFA Big League. His playing experience has undoubtedly influenced his coaching style, which emphasizes skill, strategy, and teamwork.

With his expertise in schools’ football, it’s of no doubt, Lwebuga will rely more on fresh talents.

Buddu are the defending champions of the Buganda Masaza Cup having beaten Kyaggwe 1-0 on a final that was played at Mandela National Stadium Nambole in November last year. The 2025 season is set to kick off on 21st June this year.
