All attention turned towards East Africa following the conclusion of the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, as the continent anticipates the upcoming 2027 PAMOJA African Cup of Nations.
At the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe formally passed the CAF flag to the East African nations. The symbolic handover occurred just after the thrilling final match between hosts Morocco and Senegal.
The podium was graced by representatives from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Uganda's delegation was led by the State Minister for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, and Eng. Moses Magogo, President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).
They were accompanied by football association presidents and sports ministry officials from Kenya and Tanzania, who collectively accepted the flag shortly before the prize ceremony for the 2025 tournament.
Uganda's broader delegation in Morocco also included National Council of Sports (NCS) Chairman Ambrose Tashobya, NCS General Secretary Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel, and key members of Uganda's AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee, such as Jacqueline Basemera, Salim Katumba, and Dr Daniel Kyabayiize.
Preparations are now advancing at full speed for a successful AFCON 2027 in East Africa. This edition will be historic, marking the first time the tournament is co-hosted by three nations since its inception in 1957.
The three countries are accelerating their readiness, focusing on critical areas such as sports infrastructure—including stadia, training grounds, and administrative blocks—alongside hotels, accommodation, air and road transport networks.
