FUFA Unveils New Trophy for Women's Super League in Symbolic Boost for Female Football

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has marked a new chapter for women's football by introducing a striking new trophy for its existing Women's Super League competition. The symbolic replacement sees the retirement of the old trophy in favor of an elegant new design featuring a female player holding a ball triumphantly above her head.

The unveiling ceremony at Salt Media's headquarters brought together key figures in Ugandan football, with Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, FUFA's 3rd Vice President, presenting the impressive new silverware. The tall, sculptural trophy represents more than just sporting achievement - it stands as a powerful visual statement about the growing stature of women's football in Uganda.

Susan Makula, whose advocacy for girls' sports development earned her recognition in the event, emphasized how the new trophy reflects FUFA's commitment to elevating the women's game. "This isn't just about changing silverware," Makula noted, "but about changing perceptions and showing our female athletes they're valued equally."

Salt Media MD Pr. Aloysius Bujjingo, praised the federation's symbolic gesture.

The Women's Super League continues with its ten-team format, but players and coaches agree the new trophy adds prestige to the competition. The design specifically celebrates female athleticism, departing from traditional cup designs to feature an unmistakably feminine silhouette in motion.

FUFA officials explained the replacement trophy initiative as part of broader efforts to professionalize women's football. The federation has simultaneously increased marketing efforts around the women's league and secured improved broadcast arrangements with Salt Media.

As the new trophy begins its journey to be awarded to this season's champions, it carries with it the hopes of Uganda's female footballers for greater recognition and support. The physical elevation of the ball in the trophy's design mirrors FUFA's stated ambition to raise the profile of women's football across the nation.
