Hoima, Uganda – Local authorities in Hoima District have implemented immediate restrictions on overnight disco events following two tragic fatalities during campaign-related gatherings. The decision came during an emergency district security meeting convened after recent violent incidents.

Deputy RDC Michael Chakashari confirmed the new regulations:
"We cannot tolerate campaign activities that endanger lives. Nighttime discos with alcohol consumption have become a public safety hazard during this election period."

The ban follows a weekend tragedy in Buseruka Sub-county, where two individuals died during an overnight political mobilisation event. District Police Commander Julian Birabwa emphasised the need for responsible campaigning, noting alcohol-fueled violence has escalated since election activities intensified.

NRM District Registrar Joseph Kutegeka supported the move:
"Our candidates' safety comes first. We urge all aspirants to conduct daytime campaigns and avoid risky gatherings."

Several parliamentary hopefuls, including Susan Asimwe (Bugahya), Jerald Kasigwa, and Amlan Tusiime, voiced support for the measures during the meeting. The district's two constituencies – currently represented by MPs Pius Wakabi (Bugahya) and David Karubanga (Kigorobya) – remain active campaign zones despite the new restrictions.

The security crackdown reflects growing concerns about election-related violence across Uganda. Hoima authorities plan increased patrols to enforce the disco ban while allowing regulated campaign activities during daylight hours.

Mayuge, Uganda – Former Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has firmly rejected suggestions that she should retire from politics, declaring her continued readiness to serve as she campaigns for the position of Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the NRM's Central Executive Committee (CEC).

Speaking during a campaign meeting at Hannington Resort in Mayuge District, Kadaga addressed critics who claim she should make way for younger leaders. "I am not old, and there are many in politics older than me who haven't retired," the Kamuli District Woman MP stated emphatically.

The meeting drew women leaders from all 12 districts of Busoga, including Jinja, Bugiri, Iganga, and Kamuli. Attendees included representatives from the Women's League and the Women's Council, who pledged strong support for Kadaga's candidacy against the current Speaker, Anita Among.

At the gathering, participants asked President Museveni to persuade Speaker Among to withdraw from the race, fund Women’s League leaders’ campaign activities, and donate motorcycles to ease grassroots mobilisation.

Highlighting her credentials, Kadaga reminded supporters of her contributions to Busoga and national development during her long political career. She positioned herself as a strong voice for ordinary members within CEC.

Underscoring her determination, Kadaga announced plans for nationwide campaigns, kicking off with a major rally in Iganga District on July 10th.

The enthusiastic reception in Mayuge demonstrated Kadaga's enduring popularity in her Busoga stronghold as she seeks to reclaim influence within the NRM leadership structures.
