With just a few days remaining until the party's internal elections, the Rt. Hon. Speaker is widely considered a frontrunner for a coveted position on the National Central Executive Committee – the CEC.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has officially launched its 2026–2031 election campaign under the theme "Protect the Gains," featuring a new presidential portrait that will dominate campaign materials. The party's top leadership, including First Vice Chairman Alhaji Moses Kigongo, Second Vice Chairperson Rebecca Kadaga, and Office Manager Hadija Namyaalo, presided over the unveiling ceremony at Kyambogo.

The recently concluded NRM primary elections in Lwengo District have left a trail of disputes and accusations, with several victorious candidates now facing scepticism about their legitimacy. The electoral process, intended to select flag bearers for the 2026 general elections, has exposed deep divisions within the ruling party across the district's three constituencies: Bukoto South, Bukoto Mid West, and Bukoto West.

Andrew Ssenyonga Ruzindana, former Mukono District Chairman and NRM parliamentary aspirant for Mukono Municipality, has launched scathing accusations against party officials following a violent confrontation during vote counting. The incident culminated in Ssenyonga being hospitalised at Nairobi's Aga Khan Hospital for specialised treatment after allegedly being assaulted by police officers.
