The political and national scenes in Uganda have been marked by contrasting events of protest and ceremony

In Hoima City, police arrested organisers and supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, who were preparing to hold a rally. The gathering was intended to welcome their Member of Parliament for Hoima West Constituency, Kato Ronald Rwahwire.

Uganda celebrated its 63rd Independence Day at Kololo Independence Grounds, with the President, Vice President, and Libyan officials in attendance.

Uganda's 63rd Independence Day celebration was held at the Kololo Independence Grounds, presided over by the President. The event commenced with the President's arrival at 11:00 am, where he was received by the Speaker of Parliament and other government officials. Dignitaries in attendance included the Vice President and officials from Libya.

Leaders from across the political spectrum in Kasese shared their perspectives on the milestone:

Kasese, Uganda – As Uganda prepares to mark 63 years of independence, political leaders in Kasese District have extended their congratulations to citizens, encouraging them to exercise their rights and freedoms while reflecting on the nation's journey.

Hoima, Uganda – The President of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi, has pledged to protect residents in the Bunyoro sub-region from land grabbers if he is elected President in the 2026 general elections.

The FDC leader made the declaration during a campaign stop in Hoima town, which lasted approximately three hours. Addressing a press conference at Kolping Hotel this morning, Mafabi strongly condemned individuals who are seizing community lands in the oil-rich region under the pretext of oil exploration activities.

KAMPALA – Uganda is preparing to mark its 63rd Independence Anniversary tomorrow, an event commemorating the country's liberation from British colonial rule. The celebrations are scheduled to take place at the Kololo Independence Ceremonial Grounds.
