The Commander of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has held a meeting with retired United States Lieutenant General Michael Thomas Flynn to discuss matters of education and leadership development. The engagement took place during a strategic workshop organized at the Serena Hotel in Kigo.
According to Gen. Muhoozi, the discussions centered on improving the quality of education in Uganda, with a particular focus on equipping young people with the skills needed to build their nation and uphold strong moral values.
He further emphasized that the military plays a critical role in the country's education sector and in fostering disciplined leadership.
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba reaffirmed that the UPDF, as a people's army, operates several schools across the country that perform exceptionally well. He also highlighted the potential expansion of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program, which is already being piloted in some Ugandan schools.
Speaking at the event, Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who served in the US military for 33 years, underscored the importance of collaboration between the two nations. He noted that bilateral cooperation is crucial for development and helps individuals gain comprehensive knowledge, particularly when facing challenges.
The workshop was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Uganda's Ambassador to the United States, Robie Kakonge; Maj. Gen. James Kinalwa; Maj. Gen. Moses Rwakitarate; Maj. Gen. Chris Ddamulira; and others.
