Fishermen along the shores of Bugiri in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District, have voiced their dissatisfaction with illegal fishermen and enforcement officers who have been accused of harassing them. The fishermen claim that these illegal operators, who use unauthorized fishing methods, have polluted the waters and disrupted their livelihoods.
Following the chaos and irregularities reported during the Kawempe North by-election held last Thursday, NRM flag bearer Hajat Faridah Nambi has spoken out, vowing to challenge the election results in court. Nambi is contesting the victory of NUP's Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi, who was declared the winner by the Electoral Commission.
Members of the NRM Greater Mukono Pressure Group have expressed fear that the recent acts of violence and intimidation witnessed during the Kawempe by-elections could lead to chaos and instability in the upcoming national elections.
Voting is currently underway in the Kawempe North parliamentary by-election and the Kazo Angola local council chairperson by-election, following a tense campaign period marked by allegations of voter intimidation and violence. Voters in these constituencies have turned out in large numbers to cast their ballots, determined to elect their preferred candidates.
The Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Judith Nalule Nabakooba, has emphasized the need for unity and stability within families, particularly to protect children from the negative effects of domestic instability. The minister made these remarks during the International Women’s Day celebrations held at Mwera-Nsero Kakindu Grounds in Mityana District.
