New "Min Football" League Launched in Uganda

A new football league, known as the MIN FOOTBALL league, has been officially launched in Uganda. The league is set to kick off this Saturday, marking a new addition to the country's sporting landscape.

The concept is novel to Uganda, inspired by Ugandan children living abroad in countries like the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and cities such as Dubai. After observing and participating in the sport there, they made the decision to introduce it back home in Uganda.

The launch event was presided over by the President of the Min Football League Association Uganda, Fahad Kawoya, at Centenary Park in Kampala. Mr Kawoya used the occasion to explain his vision and the journey of how he aimed to bring this league to Uganda.

League Structure and Prize

The new league will begin with 10 teams. The inaugural season is scheduled to run for six months. The winning team will be awarded a prize of a trophy and a cash prize of one million Ugandan Shillings.

Emphasis on Amateur Participation

Hassan Ssekatawa, the head of operations for the Min Football League Association, clarified a key rule for the league. He stated that professional football players will not be permitted to participate, ensuring the competition remains accessible to amateurs.

A Year in the Making

The organisers, who are young Ugandans, revealed that they have spent an entire year planning for the launch of this league. The sport is played on a small pitch, which is becoming increasingly common in urban areas as people adapt to limited space for construction. The organisers believe the abundance of such small spaces in Uganda will be a major factor in the league's success and growth.
