Uganda Christian University (UCU) is set to become the centre of sporting excellence as it prepares to host the Inter-University Games from December 18 to 23 this year, in partnership with the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUS).
The highly anticipated games are expected to draw participation from universities across the country. Uganda currently boasts about 58 universities, and UCU anticipates hosting between 2,000 and 3,000 student-athletes competing in various disciplines. The athletes are expected to start arriving on December 17, ahead of a week packed with sporting action.
Speaking at a press briefing at the UCU main campus in Mukono. UCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi expressed confidence in the university’s readiness to host the national event.
The Vice Chancellor extended an invitation to all universities that have not yet confirmed their participation to do so through AUS and the UCU Sports Department, emphasising the importance of collective engagement to ensure the success of the games. He also expressed optimism about UCU’s performance, urging the university community to pray for a strong showing in the final medal tally.
Adding a unique dimension to this year’s games, UCU Director of Communication and Public Relations, Harriet Adongo, highlighted the university’s commitment to inclusivity.
She further noted that participants will compete in about 19 different sports disciplines, making the event one of the most diverse and inclusive Inter-University Games ever held in Uganda.
With upgraded facilities, inclusive sporting opportunities, and thousands of athletes expected on campus, UCU is poised to deliver a memorable and successful Inter-University Games celebration.
