Kampala witnessed unprecedented security measures today as authorities deployed heavily armed personnel around the Parliamentary precinct and all major access routes. This security clampdown comes as legislators prepare to debate the controversial UPDF Amendment Bill 2025, creating significant disruptions to normal activities in the city centre.

Kampala, Uganda – A faction of Democratic Party (DP) leaders has petitioned the Electoral Commission, demanding the suspension of the party’s upcoming National Executive Conference slated for 30th [Month]. The group, including Buikwe South MP Dr. Lulume Bayiga, Bukoto South MP Richard Sebamala, and party members Edith Byanyima and Julius Dumba, accuses the current leadership of irregularities in the conference preparations.  

Mps sitting on the legal and parliamentary affairs committee and defence and internal affairs committee have today faced off with and floored the defence minister, Jacob Oboth, attorney general Kiryowa Kiwanuka and other officials from the UPDf as they began to hear views on the UPDf amendment bill 2025 that was read for the first time yesterday.

Lubaga Division– Tensions flared during the NRM village leadership elections held yesterday in Lubaga Division, with many areas experiencing disruptions. Supporters of opposing candidates clashed, leading to a chaotic situation.
