Over 2000, Submit Applications to Contest in NRM Primaries

A total of 2800 people have submitted applications to contest in the upcoming NRM party primaries. The deadline for submission is set for July 16th of this year.

Dr. Tanga Odoi, the head of the NRM Electoral Commission, has announced that the process of verifying documents for aspiring NRM flag bearers is complete. He further stated that the party's roadmap has been extended until 2030, incorporating this new plan.

According to Dr. Tanga, the 2800 applicants who submitted documents at the Parliamentary and LC5 Chairperson levels will begin verifying their documents at the party headquarters tomorrow, Tuesday. This verification process will run until June 30th. Those successfully vetted will then start campaigning for the NRM flag on July 1st.

Applicants for Parliamentary positions paid a fee of 3 million Shillings, while those for LC5 Chairperson paid 1.5 million Shillings. However, if an applicant is not vetted or not selected as the flag bearer, their fee will not be refunded

On the day of document verification yesterday, there was high tension as aspiring NRM flag bearers arrived. Among them was NASOLO SHALON MUTONI, who aims to represent the Buganda region youth in Parliament. She called upon the youth to trust her.

Also present was a boda-boda rider aspiring to lead Mbarara City at the mayoral (Chairperson) level. He was joined by others seeking the NRM flag.

Other notable applicants who submitted documents close to the deadline include Kenani Opio, aspiring for Busiro South, and Generous Namara, aspiring for Woman MP in Lyantonde District. These proceeded to the Registrar to receive their documents.

According to the NRM Electoral Commission leadership, they announced that the long queues forming at their offices on Plot 13, Kyaddondo, will be managed. They will maintain a single, one-way queue system to facilitate the applicants starting the verification process tomorrow, Tuesday.
