The judiciary has announced plans to establish new courts in various constituencies across Uganda and increase the number of judges to address the growing backlog of cases. Hon. Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija, the Principal Judge of the High Court and Deputy Chief Justice of Uganda, emphasized that these measures are aimed at improving access to justice and ensuring timely resolution of cases.

Mukono Municipality has initiated a major operation to clear roadside taxis and close illegal taxi parks, following a directive from the Minister of Works and Transport, General Edward Katumba Wamala. The directive, which had faced delays due to political interference, is now being enforced to restore order and improve traffic management in the town.

A heated family dispute has erupted in Kikooza Village, Mukono Central Division, after a grandmother, Babirye Babra, 45, allegedly claimed that she gave birth to her granddaughter, Lule Latif, who is 2½ months old. The child’s mother, Nalweyiso Bridget, 22, has accused her mother of lying and has reported the matter to Wantooni Police Station for intervention.

Boda boda riders in Butaleja District are raising alarm over the increasing attacks by thieves who assault them and steal their motorcycles, many of which are rented from loan companies. The riders, who are now living in constant fear, say the thieves ambush them in isolated areas, leaving them vulnerable and without assistance.

 

Butebo District, Uganda – A tragic incident of mob justice unfolded in the early hours of March 7, 2025, in Bulyambwa B West Ward, Butebo Town Council, leaving one man dead and another fighting for his life. The deceased, identified as Wakida alias Funi, approximately 32 years old, was stoned to death by an angry mob, while Gadimba Asumani, 30, narrowly escaped with severe injuries.
