Luweero, Uganda – Police in Luweero are hunting for Mzee Dan Kyobe, an elderly man accused of orchestrating a brazen land fraud scheme that has left his children homeless and multiple buyers in financial ruin. The scandal involves a contested piece of land in Ngaaju Village, where Kyobe allegedly sold the same property to multiple unsuspecting buyers before mysteriously disappearing. Â
Â
The controversy erupted when Kyobe’s children discovered their father had sold off their ancestral land—property they had legally inherited. To their horror, they found that the land had been fraudulently sold multiple times, with Kyobe allegedly pocketing millions of shillings before vanishing. Â
"Our father left us with nothing," lamented one of Kyobe’s children. "We didn’t even know he was selling the land until strangers showed up claiming ownership." Â
Â
Investigations reveal that Kyobe was not the rightful owner of the land. The actual titleholders, including Noa Kamiiri and others, had sold the property years earlier, meaning Kyobe had no legal right to transact it again. Â
Mulongo Wasswa John Kidde, the local council chairperson of Ngaaju Village, confirmed the fraud, admitting that Kyobe had been manipulating documents to deceive buyers. "He knew exactly what he was doing," Kidde said. "He kept selling land that wasn’t his." Â
Â
Luweero Regional Police have launched a manhunt for Kyobe, who is now a wanted fugitive. "We are tracking him down, and we believe he will be arrested soon," a police spokesperson stated. Â
Â
Adding to the drama, Erisa Walusimbi, Kyobe’s brother, has been dragged into the scandal, with some accusing him of involvement. However, Walusimbi denies any wrongdoing, insisting he was unaware of his brother’s schemes. Â
Â
As police close in on Kyobe, victims of the fraud are demanding justice. "We want our money back, and we want him prosecuted," said one furious buyer. Â
The case serves as a stark warning to Ugandans about the risks of informal land deals. With land fraud on the rise, authorities are under pressure to tighten regulations and protect citizens from such scams. Â
