Gganda, 26th May 2025– Police in Gganda, led by OC David Twinomujjuni and supported by the area’s security head, Christopher Muyimbwa, have arrested seven youths accused of terrorizing the village with machetes and knives. The suspects allegedly carried out violent attacks, including robberies and physical assaults on residents.

The detained individuals are:  Sharif Lwanga (20), Umar Katumba (23), Sulaiman Ntege (30), Sayimon Toko (18), Jesiper Kawalya (18), Bandra Kaweesa (16), Hashim Ssentongo (14)

Police recovered weapons, including machetes and knives, believed to have been used in the attacks.

During interrogations, the suspects reportedly revealed their methods of operation, including how they planned and executed robberies. They also disclosed where they sold stolen items. After being held in custody, they were later brought before the police station, where some parents were seen weeping, pleading for leniency.

Residents gathered at the police station, expressing relief at the arrests but also frustration over the persistent insecurity caused by the group. Many shared testimonies of their experiences with the suspects.

Christopher Muyimbwa, the Gganda security chief, warned that anyone involved in criminal activities would face the law. He emphasised that repeat offenders would be rearrested and prosecuted.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrests, stating that investigations are ongoing to apprehend any remaining accomplices. He assured the public that once investigations are complete, the suspects will be presented in court to face charges.

The arrests mark a significant step in restoring security in Gganda, but authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to prevent further crimes.
