Mukono Police, with assistance from the Flying Squad and Crime Intelligence, have uncovered a hidden military-style camp in the area, suspected to be used by a notorious criminal gang. The discovery comes after a two-month operation that led to the arrest of nine suspects linked to a series of violent crimes and robberies in Mukono and surrounding areas.

The operation gained momentum after the Flying Squad and Crime Intelligence intercepted a group of nine young men on Bobabo Road in a white Noah vehicle, registration number UBR 254E. The suspects were arrested in Namugongo, where they had been hiding after allegedly stealing a Cocoa vehicle in Nakawa.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, one of the arrested suspects, Ivan Stephen Wagube, also known as Ivan Misambwe, led authorities to the hideout in Lukojjo Village, Mpoma Parish, Nama Sub-county, Mukono District. The hideout was found to contain military uniforms, weapons, and other tools suspected to be used in breaking into homes. The items were neatly packed in plastic bags and hidden under iron sheets.

Onyango explained that the suspects are believed to have used the camp as a base for planning and executing various criminal activities in Mukono and neighboring areas. He added that further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the gang’s operations.

However, one of the suspects claimed that the camp belonged to someone named Kasule and others, who had abandoned it about a month and a half ago. He also admitted to using the camp during the Nakawa robbery, revealing that he works as a land broker in Kisowera Town.

Local leaders in the area expressed shock and concern over the presence of such a hideout in their community. They commended the security forces for their efforts and called for increased vigilance among residents to prevent similar incidents in the future.
