BUDAKA DISTRICT – In a fiery and uncompromising inaugural address, the newly sworn-in Budaka District LC5 Chairman, Mr. Kateu Anthony, has issued a stark warning to corrupt officials, declaring a zero-tolerance crusade that he says will define his leadership.
Shortly after taking the oath of office, Chairman Kateu addressed his newly appointed team with a blunt ultimatum on graft. “Dismiss yourself before I come for you,” he warned, sending a clear signal that the old ways of doing business in the district are over. He stated unequivocally that any staff member appointed by him who engages in corruption should voluntarily resign before facing his wrath.
He said that to fight one needs to be a corrupt free person meaning that I have to be a clean man before I fight corruption in the district of budaka.
Mr. Kateu painted a grim picture of the district’s current state, noting that corruption is at an alarmingly high level and must be reduced at all costs. “I have come to fight corruption in Budaka District,” he declared, promising a new era of transparent and accountable governance. He stressed his willingness to work tirelessly for the betterment of the district.
Topping his immediate agenda alongside the anti-corruption fight is a radical overhaul of the health sector. The Chairman highlighted a critical infrastructure gap, lamenting that Budaka District has no district hospital. He revealed an ambitious plan to transform the only Health Centre IV in the district into a fully equipped, modern facility.
He disclosed that construction is already underway for a state-of-the-art ward, valued at a staggering 1.6 billion shillings. “This will be one of the most modern wards in Eastern Uganda,” Mr. Kateu promised. Acknowledging the current state of the facility, he added that the health centre is severely bushy and requires immediate cleaning and the installation of proper lighting.
Turning his guns on the institution responsible for hiring, the Chairman issued a stern warning to the District Service Commission against the persistent vice of selling jobs. He described the practice as a thing of the past, promising a clean commission free from corruption under his watch.
In a gesture of political maturity, Mr. Kateu extended an olive branch to his predecessors, thanking them for their great work. He assured the district that he is not starting from scratch, but rather continuing from where they stopped, vowing to take their work to even greater heights.
In his subsequent appointments, Mr. Kateu named Mr. Mulawula Tadeo as his Vice Chairman, entrusting him as a key ally in the new administration's transformational journey.
Amidst the tough talk on accountability, the new LC5 Chairman took a moment to express gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni for bringing peace and democracy to Uganda, which he noted allows for the regular, peaceful elections the country enjoys every five years.
The swearing-in ceremony marks a dramatic turning point for Budaka, as Chairman Kateu Anthony draws a firm line in the sand, promising a tenure defined by ruthless action against corruption and a landmark investment in public health.
