BUTALEJA, UGANDA – The Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Butaleja, Godfrey Nasuga Musulemi, has vowed to arrest self-proclaimed NRM coordinator Richard Weere Mudehere and his team for allegedly defrauding locals under the guise of connecting them to the First Family.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, Nasuga condemned Mudehere’s group for extorting money from residents during a Saturday event, falsely promising them a meeting with General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the First Son.
“The NRM party has free entry and exit. Why should someone exploit innocent citizens in the name of linking them to State House?” Nasuga questioned.
Mudehere, known for his signature yellow NRM T-shirt, alongside Busolwe Sub County LCIII Chairperson Peter Ojwang and others, reportedly invited 18 people from each village, charging them UGX 10,000 each under the pretense that Gen. Muhoozi would address their concerns.
However, the event turned chaotic when the promised guest failed to show up, leaving attendees stranded and hungry. Frustrated supporters stormed the NRM office, chanting opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) slogans, while Mudehere and his team fled the scene.
Margaret Mwima, director of M.M Events, reported that 146 plastic chairs and flower decorations went missing during the commotion.
This is not the first time Mudehere has been accused of fraudulent activities. Earlier this year, he was warned by the RDC’s office and the District Internal Security Officer (DISO) after attempting to launch an unauthorized "National NRM Mobilisation Forum," where he claimed to be a representative of the First Son.
Meanwhile, Nasuga also revealed that he had previously expelled another group, Mwamiki General Enterprises Limited, from Jinja, for charging vulnerable residents UGX 35,000 each under false promises of financial assistance.
Kuzaima Hasahya, the NRM party registrar in Butaleja, disowned Mudehere’s actions, stating that the mainstream party leadership had no involvement in the scam.
“We tried to stop Mudehere from these fraudulent activities, but he turned against us,” Hasahya said.
Authorities are now pursuing Mudehere and his associates, with the Assistant RDC warning that such exploitation of citizens will not be tolerated.
