Supreme Court Judge Hon. Justice Mike Chibita has called on human rights actors to intensify efforts in building the capacity of justice institutions to better protect the rights of vulnerable groups, including women, children, persons with disabilities (PWDs), the elderly, and refugees.

Justice Chibita made the remarks while officiating a five-day human rights training organised by the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) Regional Training Facility. Held under the theme “Promotion of Human Rights-Based Approach in Protecting Rights of Minority Groups,” the training convened key stakeholders from the Greater Kampala Metropolitan area, including representatives from the Uganda Police Force, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Judiciary, Uganda Human Rights Commission, Electoral Commission, Uganda Prisons Service, civil society organizations, and journalists.

The minister of state in charge of economic monitoring in the office of the president, Beatrice Akello, has ordered the arrest of three Kumi Municipality technocrats over graft-related issues.

They include the Human resource officer Miriam Aguti, the district engineer Patrick Osire and Francis Eroni, a Chairman of Kumi Municipality Emyooga Boda Boda SACCO

The suspect, Namono Geraldine, remains in police custody as investigations into the precise circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing continue. She is expected to be arraigned in court once police inquiries are complete.

MBALE CITY – A community in Muyembe Cell, Maluku Ward, is in shock after a domestic altercation turned deadly on Tuesday night, resulting in the death of a local entertainer and the arrest of his girlfriend.

A violent confrontation unfolded in Ntawo, Mukono Central Division, when a group of assailants allegedly led by a man identified as Peter launched a brutal attack on administrators overseeing land formerly owned by the late Ssekiboobo Ham Mukasa.

The victims, including Ham Mukasa Galabuzi and Fahad Mutumba, had gone to inspect and clear portions of the farmland when they were ambushed. The attackers reportedly inflicted serious injuries and vandalised the Volvo vehicle the administrators were travelling in. Galabuzi, found bleeding heavily, later made a statement at Mukono Police Station before being referred to CPR Medical Centre, where doctors recommended specialised treatment due to the severity of his wounds.

A soldier attached to the Uganda Peoples' Defense Forces (UPDF) Air Force is on the spot for allegedly grabbing a plot of land in Buwate, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.

It is alleged that Capt. Musa Akandwanaho forcefully took possession of a plot of land adjacent to his residence without following the due process of the law.
