Parliamentary Candidate Nominations For Kampala Capital City Have Begun

Parliamentary candidate nominations for Kampala Capital City have begun under Rashid Kasakya’s management.

The nomination of parliamentary candidates for Kampala Capital City has commenced successfully under the management of the Kampala District Electoral Commission head, Rashid Kasakya. The process is part of the preparations for the 2026-2031 parliamentary term.

The race for parliamentary seats in Mukono District has officially kicked off, with 21 candidates successfully nominated by the Electoral Commission to contest in the forthcoming general elections.

According to the Mukono District Returning Officer, Mark Muganzi, the nomination exercise attracted a diverse group of contenders representing various political parties and independents across the district’s five constituencies — Mukono Municipality, Mukono North, Mukono South, Nakifuma County, and the District Woman Member of Parliament seat.

The Mukono District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Hanifah Nabukeera, has announced her decision to quit the National Unity Platform (NUP) and contest as an independent candidate for the Mukono Municipality parliamentary seat in the 2026 general elections.

Nabukeera’s declaration marks a major political twist in Mukono’s political landscape, as she prepares to challenge Hon. Betty Nambooze Bakireke, the incumbent MP, who recently retained the NUP ticket for the same position.

In a recent gathering,NRM leaders in Nakawa have outlined their strategy to secure victory for President Yoweri Museveni and other party flag bearers in the upcoming 2026 elections.
 
 The meeting, which emphasised discipline and a clear campaign roadmap, was addressed by prominent party figures.
