Kalyesubula Benjamin announces candidacy for Uganda’s 2026 presidential election.
KAMPALA, UGANDA – July 30, 2025 – Kalyesubula Benjamin, a prominent city businessman based in Bakuli, Lubaga Division, Kampala, has officially announced his intention to contest the presidency of Uganda in the forthcoming 2026 general elections.

Sedrack Kaguta, President Museveni’s brother, asserts his qualifications for the NRM’s top regional position, countering criticism from Dr. Chris Baryomunsi.

Kaguta’s bid for the Western Region Vice Chairpersonship pits him against high-profile contenders, including incumbent Dr. Baryomunsi (also Minister of ICT) and outspoken MP Michael Mawanda.

President Museveni warns RDCs and RCCs against abandoning official duties for elective politics.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued a stern warning to Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) and Resident City Commissioners (RCCs) against abandoning their official duties to pursue elective politics. The directive, communicated through the Office of the Presidency, comes amid concerns over the poor electoral performance of former RDCs who resigned to contest in recent elections.  

KAMPALA, UGANDA – July 29, 2025 – Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister of Information, Communication Technology, and National Guidance, has defended his decision to contest for the position of National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for the Western Region. This move comes despite public concerns that his current extensive leadership roles could hinder his effectiveness.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has announced two candidates who will contest for president in the forthcoming election. This decision followed a process that began on April 28th, when the party invited all interested members to express their intent to vie for the position. Candidates were subsequently selected in May.
