Tension Flares in NRM Primaries as Loser in Kasanda South Rejects Results, Declares Independent Bid
Â
A dispute has erupted in the Kasanda South constituency following the NRM party primaries. One of the losing candidates, Eria Mubiru, has rejected the results and declared his intention to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming general elections.
This has drawn criticism from his rivals who emerged victorious, accusing him of being a sore loser.
The primary race in Kassanda South was contested by five candidates:
1. Â Simeo Nsubuga
2. Â Eria Mubiru (The candidate who rejected the results)
3. Abdul Bisaso
4. Michael Muhumuza
5. Godfrey Katende
The election proceeded, and Abdul Bisaso was initially declared the winner. However, this result was contested by Eria Mubiru.
Â
After failing to find a resolution through the party's electoral committee, Mubiru announced his decision to his supporters, declaring he would leave the NRM and run as an independent.
He stated that his decision was driven by the overwhelming support and love from his people, even though he did not agree with the official outcome of the primary election.

At a Thanksgiving rally held in Lwamasanga village, Nalutuntu sub-county, Mubiru thanked his supporters for their loyalty and urged them to continue supporting President Museveni.
At this same rally, his former rivals Simeo Nsubuga and Godfrey Katumba (also written as Katende in the initial list) were present. They sat together and appeared to reconcile, signalling unity.
Simeo Nsubuga spoke about the events of the primary, dismissing the notion that they were rigged.
Despite the initial dispute, the overall mood was described as celebratory. Supporters were happy and expressed their continued support for both Mubiru (as an independent) and President Museveni.
