Forced NRM Candidates Demand Compensation for Campaign Costs
KAMPALA - A group of National Resistance Movement (NRM) members, who were forced to step down from the forthcoming youth and entrepreneurship elections, are demanding the party compensate their campaign expenses.
Youth elections to be held on 18th September but a section of these candidates has voiced their concern over how they were forced out of the race and are now seeking a meeting with the President Museveni.
Easter Najjemba, the NRM Women's League chairperson for Rubaga division, expressed her displeasure at being forced to withdraw against her will, stating that the proper procedure for such a decision should have been at the delegates' assembly.
In an exclusive interview with Salt Media, Najjemba claimed she received an anonymous call instructing her to withdraw her candidacy. She had been competing against four men - Ali Nsubuga, Abdu Bisaso, and Ronald Mwesigwa - for the publicist secretary position, a seat she claims was unfairly taken from her.
Najjemba has also made her demands known to the party chairperson, whom she and others plan to meet before the nomination exercise. She warned the party of serious consequences if it continues to frustrate members who intend to contest for various positions.
When asked about her total campaign expenditure, Najjemba declined to disclose the amount but insisted it was a significant sum.
