Kampala, Uganda – Ugandan solar importers are pointing to a persistent "old mindset" among the public as a major factor limiting the broader adoption of solar energy. Despite its potential, many consumers still perceive solar power as an ineffective alternative, a misconception importers are urgently working to dispel.

Energy Ministry to introduce Power Efficiency Bill to address poor power consumption.

Kampala, Uganda – The State Minister for Energy, Hon. Okasai Opolot, has announced that the Ministry of Energy will soon table a Power Efficiency Bill in parliament. The proposed legislation, which has already been discussed by the Cabinet, is intended to address the issue of poor power consumption and will include penalties for non-compliance.

The KCCA special council meeting, conducted by Speaker Zahra Luyirika, was meant to resolve the controversies surrounding the circumstances under which city tycoon Hamis Kigundu constructed along the Nakivuno channel. However, it ended prematurely after city councillors raised mixed reactions to the motion intended to halt the construction along the Nakivubo channel.

Kampala – The first phase of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) construction is scheduled to commence in March next year and will run until October. The 272-kilometre line is projected to cost $2.2 billion.

Project Manager Engineer Perez Wamburu disclosed the details while addressing journalists at the Media Centre in Kampala. He outlined the funding structure, revealing that the Ugandan government will contribute 15% of the cost. The remaining 85% will be financed through export credit agencies (60%) and development financing (25%).
