The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has raised concerns over the significant impact of reduced service delivery in refugee communities following the United States’ decision to cut its aid contributions. The move, aimed at reducing US expenditure, has led to the suspension of several critical programs, exacerbating challenges faced by refugees in Uganda.

Uganda’s Parliament has approved a government request to borrow   $190 million from   Stanbic Bank to settle outstanding electricity arrears owed to   Umeme Limited, the country’s main electricity distributor. The decision, made during a heated session today, comes just days before the   March 31 deadline for settling the debt. However, the approval was not without controversy, as some Members of Parliament (MPs) raised concerns about the loan’s terms and the broader implications for the economy.

Uganda Airlines has officially launched its   London destination  , marking a significant milestone in the airline’s expansion strategy. The inaugural flight to London is scheduled for   May 18  , adding to the airline’s growing list of international destinations, which now stands at   17  . This new route is expected to reduce flight time from   17 hours to just 9 hours  , providing a more convenient travel option for passengers.

In a move aimed at improving the livelihoods of fishermen, the Ugandan government has announced plans to establish a special fund dedicated to supporting their activities. This revelation was made by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during his visit to Mr. Titus Tumusiime’s farm in Sironko Village, Nyamukutu Parish, Butiaba Sub county, Buliisa District. Mr. Tumusiime is one of the beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) program in the district.

A section of traders from Kasese District has expressed frustration over the high taxes imposed on their goods by the government through the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). The traders, who operate various businesses, voiced their concerns during the launch of nationwide consultative meetings organized by the Uganda National Traders’ Alliance (UNTA). The event took place at Booma Grounds in Kasese Municipality this afternoon.
