Ugandan government revives Kasese Industrial Park, boosting the Rwenzori region’s economy.
The Ugandan government has initiated fresh efforts to breathe new life into the long-stalled Kasese Industrial Park, marking a potential turning point for economic development in the Rwenzori region. Â
Following years of underperformance, authorities have contracted infrastructure specialists AKSA Group to undertake critical upgrades at the facility. Aisha Alibhai, PR Consultant for AKSA Group, confirmed the company stands ready to commence work pending final financial arrangements with the government. Â
Industrial Parks Manager Cecilia Nakadama revealed significant challenges that have plagued the project since its inception. While 17 investors were allocated land in the park, most failed to develop their plots - a situation partly attributed to inadequate infrastructure. Nakadama emphasised the government's new approach of revoking allocations from non-performing investors and reassigning plots to committed developers. Â
Local leaders have welcomed the revitalisation plans with cautious optimism. Kasese Municipal Mayor Chance Kahindo expressed hope that the upgraded facility would finally deliver on its original promise of creating employment opportunities and stimulating the local economy. The park's strategic location near the DR Congo border positions it as a potential hub for regional trade and industrial activity. Â
This redevelopment forms part of broader government efforts to operationalise industrial parks across Uganda, with the Kasese project representing a critical test case for the industrialisation agenda in western Uganda. Â
