In a move aimed at improving the livelihoods of fishermen, the Ugandan government has announced plans to establish a special fund dedicated to supporting their activities. This revelation was made by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during his visit to Mr. Titus Tumusiime’s farm in Sironko Village, Nyamukutu Parish, Butiaba Sub county, Buliisa District. Mr. Tumusiime is one of the beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) program in the district.

A section of traders from Kasese District has expressed frustration over the high taxes imposed on their goods by the government through the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). The traders, who operate various businesses, voiced their concerns during the launch of nationwide consultative meetings organized by the Uganda National Traders’ Alliance (UNTA). The event took place at Booma Grounds in Kasese Municipality this afternoon.

The Chinese construction company, China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), which is responsible for building roads under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Project in Mukono Municipality, has resumed its operations today after a temporary suspension. The company had been halted from continuing its work following concerns raised by local authorities.

The Ugandan government is exploring new arrangements with the World Bank to reduce collateral requirements for women entrepreneurs accessing funds under the Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) project. This move aims to enhance the accessibility of financial resources for women-led businesses and boost economic growth.  

Residents of Naminya Village in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District, have raised concerns over the pollution of their local river by nearby companies, which has led to widespread health issues in the community. The issue was brought to light during a meeting organized by area Member of Parliament Diana Mutasingwa, who called for immediate action to address the problem.
