Bulambuli District, Uganda  – The Bunabuyte Restatement Camp, which houses victims of recent landslides in Bulambuli District, is facing a growing crisis of domestic violence. According to Mr. Namukono Richard, the LC3 Chairperson of Buluganya Sub County, the camp has seen a sharp increase in domestic violence cases, with more than three incidents reported daily. The root cause, he explains, is the separation of men from their wives due to insufficient tents in the camp.

 In a shocking turn of events, a 25-year-old man from Namawanga village, Mbale district, has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to two houses, destroying crops, and exhuming his grandmother’s remains. The suspect, Fred Mabonga, popularly known as Kumbuku, was apprehended by local police on Tuesday night following the bizarre incident that left the community in disbelief.

Members of Parliament (MPs) on the Public Accountability Committee have called on the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to provide evidence of all case files transferred from the General Court Martial to civilian courts. This follows a Supreme Court ruling that declared the trial of civilians by the General Court Martial null and void.

The elderly man finds himself at the center of a bitter dispute involving local leaders, residents, and alleged land grabbers.
