A 27-year-old mother of two, Evelyn Nagawa, has been arrested in Upper Nabuti Village, Mukono Central Division, for allegedly stealing mobile phones from her neighbors. Nagawa, the wife of Moses Lubinga, was caught with a phone belonging to Sam Nabusima, which she had reportedly stolen and hidden in her bra.
According to reports, Nagawa had been using the stolen phone for about a month before she was apprehended. When questioned, she claimed that her husband provided her with everything she needed and could not explain why she resorted to theft.
Sam Nabusima and Sarah Nasaka, whose phones were also stolen, shared their experiences, stating that the suspect had been visiting their homes frequently. They expressed shock at her actions, emphasizing that they had never suspected her of such behavior.
Residents of Upper Nabuti have condemned Nagawa’s actions, describing them as a betrayal of trust. They called for stricter measures to address theft in the area, which has become a growing concern.
Local defense officials acknowledged the rise in theft cases in the community and urged residents to remain vigilant. They also advised victims to report such incidents to the authorities promptly to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
The arrest of Nagawa highlights the need for community awareness and cooperation in combating crime. Residents hope that this incident will serve as a deterrent to others and contribute to a safer neighborhood.
