Senior officials from the Uganda Police Force have released the 2024 Annual Crime Report, which reveals a 4.1% increase in crime rates across the country.  

During a press conference held at the Police Headquarters in Naguru, leaders from various police departments, including traffic, fire and rescue, and criminal investigations, highlighted key findings from the report.  

AIGP Lawrence Nuwabiine, the Director of Traffic and Road Safety, noted that the majority of road accidents occur between Friday and Sunday, with the highest number of incidents recorded at the beginning and end of the week.  

Kampala  

The Katikiro (Prime Minister) of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has appealed to the government to release former presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rule of law and protecting human rights. Mayiga made the call during a public address, where he also highlighted the need for the government to ensure that all citizens are treated fairly and justly.  

Kasangati, Wakiso District  

In a successful intelligence-led operation conducted today, February 18, 2024, at approximately 12:30 PM, Kasangati Police Station recovered several suspected stolen motorcycles and arrested four suspects. The operation took place in Wampeewo Cell, Wampeewo Ward, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District.  

Thieves have affected three villages in the sub-county of Ssekanyonyi, where power lines were cut from poles, and residents reported the incident along with a vehicle, a UBG 672L, which was abandoned in the area. The residents have been concerned about these incidents in Kikangula village.
