FIRE GUTS SPARE PARTS DEALERS' WORKSHOPS IN NDEBBA, LUBAGA

A raging fire has destroyed multiple mechanic workshops in Ndeeba Zone, Lubaga Division, leaving spare parts dealers in despair. The uncontrolled blaze swept through their garages, reducing property and merchandise to ashes.

According to the affected mechanics, the fire broke out late last night and escalated rapidly by dawn. Many have lost everything, including their  mobile money savings, stored in the shops.

The fire caught us off guard. We tried to salvage what we could, but it was too fierce. Even the cars we were repairing were consumed.

The mechanics claim that despite filing reports with the police, no compensation or assistance** has been provided. They accuse authorities of negligence saying the fire spread quickly due to a delayed response.

We’ve been left with nothing. Even after reporting, the police have done little to help us recover our losses.

Daniel Ssemuli, a representative from the Mayor’s Office at City Hall has called for an urgent police report on the incident. He emphasized the need for better disaster response to protect small business owners.

This is a huge loss for these hardworking people. We demand a transparent investigation and accountability to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango confirmed the incident but stated that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

We are assessing the damage and will provide updates. Our teams are working to ensure such incidents are better managed going forward.

Local leaders have expressed deep concern over the incident, calling for support for the affected mechanics and spare parts dealers, many of whom have lost their livelihoods.

As the victims count their losses, questions remain over fire safety measures and emergency response in Kampala’s business zones.
