NRM Primaries for District, Lord Mayor, and Municipal Leaders Underway

NRM identifies potential candidates for Kampala Lord Mayor race.

In Kampala, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has identified potential candidates to carry the party’s flag in the upcoming Lord Mayor race. Among the contenders are Mohammad Kasirye Ssendagire, Mahad Kawesa Fit, Yosam Mayambala, Thaddeus Musooke Nagenda, and Kizito Moses. The party is set to hold internal elections to finalise its official candidate.

In the William Street zone, NRM delegates have already cast their votes, with businessman Yosam Mayambala defeating Kacita Chairman Thaddeus Musooke Nagenda in a closely contested race. The competition sparked heated exchanges between supporters of the two candidates, though the process remained largely peaceful.

Mayambala, who is optimistic about securing the party’s nomination, addressed the media, dismissing allegations of foul play. He emphasised that if elected as the flagbearer, he would focus on delivering tangible results for the city.

Meanwhile, in Kisenyi, Mohammad Kasirye Ssendagire emerged victorious. He pledged to prioritise development in Namuwongo, citing the area’s long-standing challenges.

The NRM primaries also determined flagbearers for councillor positions in preparation for the 2026 general elections. However, Aisha Bahat, a notable figure in Kampala Central Division, was absent during the exercise.
