Kasese, Uganda – As the new rainy season approaches, Kasese District is already experiencing devastating natural disasters, with strong storms causing significant damage to homes and crops over the weekend.
The most affected areas include Karambi and Maliba sub-counties, where more than 30 houses were damaged and farmland was ravaged.
Yusuf Masereka, the Chief of Karambi Sub-County, confirmed the extensive losses and emphasised the urgent need for intervention.
Kasese District, due to its geographical location, is prone to natural disasters such as floods, landslides, and storms. The recent storms have further highlighted the vulnerability of the region to extreme weather conditions.
In Nyangorongo Village, Maliba Sub-County, families like those of Maga Bwambale and Sadrack Ngope are struggling to cope with the aftermath. The destruction of crops and gardens has left them without food or a means of income.
Mustafa Kikusa, Chairperson of the Kasese District Disaster Management Committee, announced that a meeting will be held to assess the damage and develop strategies for providing essential support to affected families.
Eliphaz Muhindi, the Kasese District Chairperson, assured residents that the district leadership is collaborating with development partners to find long-term solutions to the recurring disasters.
The district continues to call for emergency aid and sustainable interventions to mitigate the impact of natural disasters in the region.
