Mukono South Parliamentary Aspirant Arrested Over Job-for-Sale Scandal

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) has arrested Mubarak Ssekikubo, the Chairperson of Nakisunga Sub-County and a Parliamentary candidate for Mukono South, over his alleged involvement in a job-for-sale racket within the Mukono District Local Government.

According to the SHACU Media Coordinator, Emmanuel Bunnya, the suspect was arrested on Thursday afternoon by police officers attached to the unit after repeatedly snubbing summons to record a statement regarding the ongoing investigations.

Bunnya explained that Ssekikubo is accused of acting as an agent of the Mukono District Service Commission and extorting money from job applicants, promising them employment opportunities in exchange for cash.

He added that the suspect will face charges related to corruption, obtaining money by false pretence, and impersonation once investigations are complete.

Currently, Ssekikubo is detained at the State House Anti-Corruption Unit offices in Kampala as police continue with interrogations.

Bunnya further warned government officials and political leaders against engaging in corruption, emphasising President Yoweri Museveni’s consistent call to end the practice of selling government jobs.

He also appealed to all victims who may have paid money to Ssekikubo to report to SHACU or the nearest police station to aid ongoing investigations.

However, before his arrest at the nomination grounds, Ssekikubo dismissed the allegations as false and politically motivated, claiming his rivals were bent on tarnishing his name ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The arrest adds to a growing list of corruption-related cases in Mukono District. In May this year, SHACU arrested Mukono District Speaker Betty Nakasi Hope and the District Service Commission Chairperson, Eng. Dr Godfrey Kibuuka Kisuule, over similar allegations of selling government jobs. The District Service Commission was subsequently suspended pending thorough investigations.
