Parliamentary Candidate Nominations For Kampala Capital City Have Begun
Parliamentary candidate nominations for Kampala Capital City have begun under Rashid Kasakya’s management.
The nomination of parliamentary candidates for Kampala Capital City has commenced successfully under the management of the Kampala District Electoral Commission head, Rashid Kasakya. The process is part of the preparations for the 2026-2031 parliamentary term.
The nominated candidates have emerged from the five divisions that constitute Kampala: Kampala Central, Lubaga, Nakawa, Makindye, and Kawempe, including those vying for the District Woman MP seat.
The day saw candidates from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party successfully confirmed, including Faridah Nambi for Kawempe North and Minda Kabanda for Kampala Central, who both outlined their campaign goals. The race also features a significant number of independent candidates, such as Diana Kitonsa for Lubaga North and Shamim Nanfuma, who is contesting for the Kampala District Woman MP seat. Ms. Nanfuma expressed her intention to run on her NRM ideals despite her independent status, and all independent candidates presented their planned initiatives for the people.
Notably, a large crowd of supporters gathered for the independent candidates, cheering as each nominee presented their agenda. Opposition parties, including the FDC, DP, and NUP, also registered their candidates today. Among them was Eugina Nasolo for Lubaga South, who was confirmed under the NUP flag, with these candidates vowing to change the face of parliament.
In a press briefing at 8 PM this evening, the Electoral Commission's Rashid Kasakya stated that the exercise had proceeded smoothly without any major disruptions. He issued a firm warning to all nominated candidates, instructing them not to begin campaigning before the official start date of November 11th of this year, as doing so would risk facing legal consequences.
The nationwide nomination of parliamentary aspirants continues, with the Electoral Commission announcing that the exercise will resume tomorrow, Tuesday, for further nominations.
