Residents of Kanyanya in Ntunda Zone, Kawempe Division, are facing a severe sanitation crisis due to overflowing garbage pits filled with ash and waste. The poor sanitation conditions have led to frequent illnesses among the community members, raising concerns about public health.
The residents also highlighted the issue of open drainage channels, which have become clogged with waste, emitting foul odors and attracting pests. They expressed frustration over the lack of proper waste management systems in the area.
During a community engagement organized by the NRM party, Faridah Nambi, a local leader, addressed these challenges. She has been actively involved in efforts to improve cleanliness in the area and urged residents to take responsibility for maintaining a clean environment. Nambi called for the removal of garbage, the filling of potholes, and the clearing of drainage channels to address the sanitation crisis.
Today marked the fifth day of a cleanliness campaign in Kawempe North, spearheaded by Faridah Nambi. The campaign began in an area known as Mukitala, where Nambi and her team have been working tirelessly to mobilize residents and promote hygiene practices.
Nambi and her team also visited a skilling center established under President Museveni’s initiative to empower youth with vocational training. The center is part of the government’s efforts to equip young people with practical skills for self-reliance.
Rosemary Nansubuga Sseninde, a senior NRM official, encouraged the youth to take advantage of the government’s skilling programs. She emphasized the importance of vocational training in creating employment opportunities and improving livelihoods.
Sseninde and Nambi also inspected projects undertaken by youth trained under the Kampala Presidential Initiative on Skilling the Girl Child. They commended the trainees for their efforts and urged them to utilize their skills to contribute to the community’s development.
Dr. Faith Mirembe, who oversees the skilling initiatives in Kampala, revealed that they have partnered with Dr. Katana to ensure that youth in Kawempe benefit from vocational training programs. She called on residents to trust the NRM government and reject opposition leaders who spread falsehoods.
Dr. Mirembe also urged the community to support Hajati Faridah Nambi, who is vying for a parliamentary seat, citing her dedication to improving the lives of Kawempe residents. She highlighted the NRM’s achievements and encouraged voters to make informed decisions in the upcoming elections.
The event was covered by Salt TV, showcasing the ongoing efforts to address sanitation issues and empower youth in Kawempe Division.
As the cleanliness campaign continues, residents remain hopeful that their community will overcome the challenges of poor sanitation and embrace a healthier, more sustainable future.
