Gen. Muhoozi Inspects UPDF National Referral Hospital
This hospital represents a significant milestone in Uganda’s healthcare system.
The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, conducted a comprehensive inspection tour of the newly constructed Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) National Referral Hospital in Mbuya. The advanced medical facility is set to be officially commissioned by His Excellency, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in the coming weeks.
During the visit, Gen. Kainerugaba assessed the hospital’s readiness, inspecting key departments, including emergency care units, surgical wards, diagnostic laboratories, and specialised treatment centres. Accompanied by senior military officials and medical personnel, he emphasised the facility’s role in enhancing healthcare services for UPDF personnel, veterans, and civilians.
"This hospital represents a significant milestone in Uganda’s healthcare system," Gen. Kainerugaba stated. "Equipped with modern technology and staffed by skilled professionals, it will provide top-tier medical services while reducing the need for overseas referrals."
The UPDF National Referral Hospital is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the country’s health infrastructure. Once operational, it is expected to offer specialised treatments, including trauma care, orthopaedics, and advanced surgical procedures, further cementing Uganda’s capacity in medical excellence.
President Museveni is expected to preside over the official opening ceremony, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility for both military personnel and the general public.
