The constituency's four sub-counties have become hotspots, with Kyazanga and Katovu experiencing repeated clashes
Lwengo District – Tensions flared in Bukoto West constituency as rival NRM camps clashed during campaign activities, leaving 12 injured and 11 arrested. The latest confrontation between supporters of incumbent MP Muyanja Ssentayi and challenger Ibrahim Kitatta occurred in Kyazanga Town Council, marking the second violent incident in a week.
A confrontation in Kyazanga on Saturday resulted in stone-throwing, 12 casualties, and 11 arrests.
MP Muyanja Ssentayi denied allegations of violence, calling for urgent NRM intervention: "This wound needs immediate treatment before it festers." His supporters accused opponents of instigating clashes.
Kitatta's camp, including spokesperson Christopher Kiggundu, blamed the incumbent's team for the unrest. Kitatta attended multiple security meetings with RDC Immy Kateera but denied any involvement in the violence.
Lwengo RDC Kateera confirmed investigations: "We'll apprehend anyone found culpable." Masaka West Police Spokesperson Twaha Kasirye warned against further violence, noting officers remain on high alert.
The constituency's four sub-counties have become hotspots, with Kyazanga and Katovu experiencing repeated clashes. Police extended Muyanja's campaign window by two days to compensate for disrupted activities.
At Masaka Hospital, victims described being ambushed while returning from campaigns. Isaac Kajjimu, nursing head injuries, recounted: "They attacked us with stones and sticks without warning."
