The Appointments Committee of Parliament, chaired by the Speaker, has vetted and approved three prominent individuals for key positions in Uganda’s judicial and public service sectors. The approved appointees include Justice Singiza Karekona as Chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Lady Justice Rosette Comfort Kania as a member of the JSC, and Frank Musingwiire as a member of the Public Service Commission (PSC).
Justice Singiza Karekona, now confirmed as the Chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission, brings a wealth of experience to the role. The JSC is responsible for overseeing the appointment, discipline, and removal of judicial officers, ensuring the integrity and efficiency of Uganda’s judiciary. Justice Karekona’s leadership is expected to strengthen the commission’s mandate in upholding judicial standards.
Lady Justice Rosette Comfort Kania, appointed as a member of the JSC, is a respected figure in Uganda’s legal system. Her extensive experience as a judicial officer will contribute to the commission’s efforts in maintaining transparency and accountability within the judiciary.
Frank Musingwiire, approved as a member of the Public Service Commission, will play a crucial role in shaping Uganda’s public service sector. The PSC is tasked with recruiting, promoting, and disciplining public servants, ensuring that government institutions are staffed with competent and ethical personnel. Musingwiire’s appointment is expected to enhance the commission’s ability to deliver on its mandate.
The vetting process, conducted by the Appointments Committee, focused on the candidates’ qualifications, experience, and commitment to public service. The committee’s approval of these appointments reflects confidence in their ability to contribute to the effective functioning of Uganda’s judicial and public service systems.
These appointments come at a critical time as Uganda continues to strengthen its governance structures and promote accountability across public institutions. The newly appointed officials are expected to bring fresh perspectives and renewed energy to their respective roles, driving positive change in their sectors.
