Police in Nyendo-Mukungwe Division, Masaka, have arrested Dr. Kawuki Fulgensio, a medical professional, for allegedly abducting an 8-year-old girl. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about child safety.

How the Incident Unfolded
According to reports, Dr. Kawuki encountered the young girl along the road and took her to his home. The situation came to light when the girl's school teachers noticed her unusual absence and immediately alerted her parents.

Parents Express Shock and Concern
Sharoon, the girl's mother, stated she had no prior interaction with the doctor and couldn't comprehend why he would take her daughter. Medical examinations at the hospital revealed the child had been sexually assaulted, according to treating physicians.

Ashraf Baguma, the father, voiced his family's trauma: "We're devastated by what happened to our daughter. We never expected such behaviour from a trusted medical professional."

Masaka Police Spokesperson Faizo Magumba confirmed Dr. Kawuki's arrest and stated the case is under active investigation. "We take this matter extremely seriously and will ensure justice is served," Magumba emphasised.

Community Reaction
The arrest has sparked outrage among residents, particularly given the suspect's professional standing. Many are calling for stricter background checks on medical practitioners and increased vigilance regarding children's safety.

Legal Proceedings
Dr. Kawuki currently remains in police custody as authorities prepare charges. The case highlights ongoing concerns about child protection in Uganda, with activists urging stronger safeguards for vulnerable minors.

Authorities have commended the school's quick response in reporting the girl's absence, which helped resolve the case promptly. Counselling services have been offered to the affected family as they cope with the traumatic experience.

The medical community in Masaka has expressed shock at the allegations against one of their colleagues, emphasising that such behaviour violates the fundamental ethics of the profession.

As investigations continue, police have urged parents to remain vigilant about their children's movements and report any suspicious activities immediately.
