President Museveni Calls For Nutrition Campaign To Boost Sports

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged Uganda’s sports fraternity to work with the Ministry of Health to promote good nutrition and discipline among the youth.

Hosting a luncheon at State House, Entebbe, to celebrate Uganda’s sports achievers, he emphasized the role of nutrition in developing athletes and called for radio campaigns to educate families on healthy feeding.

The event honored the U17 Men’s Football Team (The Cubs), the Women’s Basketball Team (The Gazelles), and the Lady Cranes Rugby Team for their recent international successes.

Museveni said Uganda’s progress in sports is a result of peace and expanded education, which has allowed talent to emerge. He highlighted ongoing stadium projects like Namboole, Hoima, and Akii Bua, and urged technical teams to find cost-effective ways to rehabilitate older sports facilities.

He also emphasized discipline and frugality as key to building a strong sports foundation, citing Uganda’s natural athletic potential across regions.

First Lady and Education Minister Maama Janet Museveni applauded the athletes and attributed their success to Uganda’s stability.

She encouraged the youth to uphold discipline, avoid destructive behavior, and embrace moral values, noting that private discipline leads to lasting public achievements. She also praised government support for infrastructure and talent development.

State Minister for Primary Education Hon. Joyce Moriku Kaducu said the President’s recognition of athletes affirms the national value placed on sports.

She lauded Maama Janet for championing inclusive sports development and supporting youth across all backgrounds. The event was attended by sports leaders, athletes, and coaches from football, basketball, and rugby federations.
