Vipers SC has on Wednesday secured the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League title after overcoming Kitara FC 2-0 in Hoima.
The Venoms who came into today’s game needing just three points in the remaining two outings, sealed the title with a win at Royal Park Butema hoima
Gusto Mulongo and Yunus Junior Sentamu scored a goal in either half to guide Vipers to victory.
After suffering a blip against BUL FC over the weekend which gave second placed NEC FC slim hopes, Vipers needed a response to seal the crown.
Bearing in mind that they had to face the same opponent in a space of four days in stanbic Uganda cup, Vipers SC chose to field their strong team.
On the other hand, Kitara opted to start fringe players and rested his stronger team ahead of the return leg of the Uganda Cup semifinal where they trail 1-0.
Mulongo opened the scores for Vipers SC in the 14th minute, capitalizing on a howler by goalkeeper Farouk Yawe.
Yawe failed to deal with Allan Okello’s free kick and spilled the ball into the path of Livingstone Mulondo who squared it for Mulongo to score.
Midway the second half, Yunus Sentamu was well stationed to double the advantage for the visitors, off Milton Karisa’s header.
With one game to play, Vipers SC emerge Champions on 68 points, four ahead of NEC FC who edged SC Villa 1-0 at Wankulukuku.
The Venoms will therefore receive their title on the final day of the season next week. Vipers SC will host Soltilo Bright Stars FC at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
The Kitende based side extend their League title tally to seven having won their maiden in 2010.
