The Ugandan government has released 28.5 billion shillings (approximately $7.8 million USD) for marketing the upcoming CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024). This includes funding for billboards, flyers, posters, and banners in Kampala to promote the tournament, according to the Local Organizing Committee spokesperson, Dr. Denis K. Mugimba.
Despite the significant investment, there is little visible evidence of these efforts on the ground—especially with just eight days remaining before Uganda’s first game. The government claims to have invested heavily to decorate 21 roads in Kampala with marketing materials, but many Ugandans remain unaware of the tournament.
Namboole Stadium Upgrades: $700,000 USD has been injected into installing LED screens for pitch-side advertisements during matches.
CHAN 2024 will be held from August 2nd–30th, 2025, across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Uganda is in Group C alongside Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria. All of Uganda’s matches will take place at Mandela National Stadium (Namboole).
