As Buganda Kingdom prepares to celebrate the 70th birthday of His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the Pookiino (County Chief) of Buddu has urged the government to prioritize environmental conservation and renewable energy initiatives. The call was made during a community event aimed at promoting sustainable practices and protecting the environment.
Pookiino Jude Muleke emphasized the importance of planting trees and preserving forests as part of the celebrations. He also called on the government to reduce taxes on renewable energy sources such as solar power and gas to make them more accessible to the public. This, he argued, would help reduce reliance on firewood and charcoal, which contribute to deforestation and environmental degradation.
During the event, the Pookiino distributed electric motorcycles to local leaders as part of efforts to promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce carbon emissions. He encouraged residents of Buddu to embrace sustainable practices and actively participate in environmental conservation efforts.
Ssesaazi Siraje, the Deputy Pookiino, echoed these sentiments, urging the community to honor Kabaka Mutebi’s legacy by caring for the environment. He also called on men to take an active role in fighting diseases such as HIV/AIDS and supporting their families.
The event highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development. As Buganda Kingdom celebrates Kabaka Mutebi’s 70th birthday, the focus remains on fostering a culture of environmental stewardship and ensuring a greener future for generations to come.
