A planned NRM meeting in Goma Central Division, Mukono Municipality, turned chaotic as factions within the party clashed, leading to violence and injuries. The meeting, aimed at mobilizing support and strengthening the party, was disrupted by disagreements between members from Goma Division and those from neighboring sub-counties, including Nama, Nakisunga, and Mukono Municipality.
The tension escalated when NRM members from Mukono Municipality attempted to take control of the meeting, leading to a physical altercation. The situation worsened as some individuals were injured, with one person reportedly being rushed to Goma Health Centre III for treatment.
Lazaro Musoke, the NRM Chairperson for Goma Division, condemned the violence and warned against further disruptions. He emphasized that such behavior undermines the party’s unity and called for calm among members.
The incident has drawn criticism from NRM leaders, including Hajji Twair Ssebagala, the District NRM Chairperson, who expressed disappointment over the actions of some members. He warned against internal conflicts and urged party members to focus on strengthening the NRM instead of engaging in divisive behavior.
Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hajjati Fatuma Ndisaba Nabittaka also addressed the issue, highlighting the development projects initiated by President Museveni in the area, including new markets and roads. She called on NRM members to avoid violence and work together to promote the party’s agenda.
The clash has raised concerns about internal divisions within the NRM in Mukono, with leaders calling for unity and discipline among members. As the party prepares for future elections, resolving such conflicts will be crucial to maintaining its strength and credibility.
