NRM Women’s League in Kampala Calls for Improved Mobilization Strategy Ahead of Women’s Day

 Kampala
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Women’s League in Kampala has called for a meeting with the head of state to discuss and enhance the party’s mobilization strategy ahead of International Women’s Day, scheduled for March 8. This demand was made during a women’s consultative meeting held in Kampala, chaired by the party’s deputy chairperson for the Kampala District Women’s Council, Sarah Kamya Nandawula.

Among the key issues raised during the meeting was the need for the party to actively organize and support the upcoming Kawempe by-election, emphasizing that a woman should be fronted to contest for the seat.
The meeting brought together women representatives from all five divisions of Kampala, including various villages. Kamya highlighted the broad participation, noting that the meeting included representatives from 120 villages in Kawempe Division, 133 in Rubaga, 225 in Nakawa, and 224 in Makindye, totaling 450 villages.
Nasuuna Rukia, a leader from Makindye Division, expressed frustration over the difficulties faced in mobilizing women, citing their exclusion from various government programs. She emphasized the need for greater inclusion and support to empower women at the grassroots level.
Similarly, Tebyasa Nanungi, the vice chairperson of Kawempe Division, revealed that despite mobilizing for the party since 2018, women in her division have yet to benefit from government projects. She specifically mentioned the GROW project, which has not reached many women, and called for more equitable distribution of resources.
The leaders stressed that addressing these challenges would not only empower women but also strengthen the NRM’s presence in the city, particularly in countering opposition influence. They urged the party leadership to prioritize women’s inclusion in government programs and ensure their active participation in decision-making processes.
The meeting concluded with a resolve to present these concerns to the head of state and push for actionable strategies to improve women’s mobilization and participation in the party’s activities.
As International Women’s Day approaches, the NRM Women’s League in Kampala remains committed to advocating for the empowerment of women and ensuring their voices are heard within the party and the government.
