We have received reports that the reconstruction of the Kasubi Tombs has been completed, with the final ceremonies marking the official reopening taking place tonight and continuing into tomorrow morning.
The reconstruction of the tombs has taken 15 years, beginning in 2011. This followed the tragic fire in 2010, when unknown individuals set the tombs ablaze, causing extensive destruction.
The Prime Minister of the Kasubi Tombs, Nkalubo David, has announced that the final rite involves cutting the ribbon at the main entrance to the Muzibu Azaalampanga building, the main house at the site. This ceremony will take place tonight.
Nkalubo also outlined other rituals that will be performed in the morning.
The caretaker of the tombs, Beatrice Namikka, confirmed that all necessary items inside the Muzibu Azaalampanga have been properly arranged. She expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to ensuring that the historic building was restored.

The ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the Buganda Parliament, Owek. Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule. He expressed amazement at the large quantity of reeds used in reconstructing the Muzibu Azaalampanga and thanked all those who contributed financially to restore the building.
The Minister for Culture, Dr. Anthony Wamala, confirmed that the tombs are complete and the entrance has been officially closed. He added that the final decision on the official reopening date rests solely with the Kabaka (King), who will announce the auspicious day for the grand ceremony.
The Lead Architect, Yonasan Nsubuga Kanyike, who has overseen the construction project since 2011, spoke emotionally about his journey. He shared the challenges he faced throughout the long process.
The Lead Architect stated that construction work, especially on the Muzibu Azaalampanga, has been fully completed. He confirmed the building has been handed over to the rightful owners, including the clan leaders and princes, as well as Sabula Kayole, who is now responsible for its maintenance.
On behalf of the government, the Buganda Coordinator at State House, Eng. Joseph Sewava, praised Buganda for the excellent cooperation with the central government. He confirmed that President Museveni prioritized the restoration of cultural heritage and called upon the people to support this noble cause.
Speaking from this location, Sewava stated that he will inform the President that the reconstruction is complete and will invite him to visit the site. He also plans to inform other government officials about the completion, emphasizing that the tombs are now a major tourist attraction.
