KAMPALA. Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairman of the NRM Electoral Commission, stated that funds totalling 6 billion Shillings collected from 2,718 party aspirants blocking positions will help manage party electoral activities.

These aspirants include 1,579 Parliamentary seat aspirants, 586 Woman MP aspirants, and 553 District Chairperson and Mayoral aspirants, with each paying between 3 million and 5 million Shillings. Â

Speaking at his Kampala office during a media briefing, Tanga said these funds will support managing national electoral activities, registering party members, supporting flag bearer campaigns, strengthening party structures, and financing general party activities. Â

Flag bearer elections for Parliamentary, District Chairperson, and Mayoral seats begin nationwide on Tuesday, 17 June 2025, with official nomination starting on 30 June 2025. Strict nomination rules require each aspirant to be accompanied by only two supporters who must present original National IDs. The Deputy Speaker and Ministers are prohibited from accompanying aspirants, with special arrangements for sick or pregnant aspirants. All entrants require accreditation cards, and aspirants will be served based on arrival time. Â

In a separate development, Tanga Odoi formally welcomed Speaker of Parliament Anita Among to contest the Bukedea Woman MP position under NRM. He clarified the position of Hellen Akol, stating she resides in Bukedea, bought land there, and opponents had contested her ownership. Following this, Speaker Among thanked God for enabling her nomination. Â

Aspirants for Central Executive Committee (CEC) positions, including Youth, PWDs, Women, Elderly, Historicals, League, and Workers Representatives, must collect nomination forms from 26 June to 1 July 2025. Nomination fees are set at 20 million Shillings for National Chairperson, 10 million for 1st National Vice Chairperson, 10 million for 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female), 5 million for each Regional Vice Chairperson, and 100,000 for Special Interest Group Representatives. Â

CEC aspirants must meet eligibility requirements: no criminal record for the past 10 years, must have served NRM in any position, and must be registered with both NRM and the National Voters’ Register. Â
