NRM Parish Elections Face Controversy and Allegations of Irregularities in Rubaga District

The NRM parish elections in Najjanankumbi Church Zone 1 were marred by chaos after a voter stormed the returning officer’s desk and tore the DR form.

The incident occurred after the returning officer declared Ronald Nsimbi the winner of the LC2 race, defeating Asadu Sendiwala by 51 votes.

The announcement sparked heated debate, prompting Rubaga District Returning Officer Robert Kato to order a recount.

However, candidate Luyinda Moses blamed the instability on local leader Abdallah Kitata, accusing him of fronting an unqualified candidate.

After the recount, Sendiwala was declared the winner, overturning the initial result.

Meanwhile, in Bukasa, Muyenga, some losing candidates attributed their defeat to tribalism, claiming certain communities campaigned against them. Merry Nalumu, who ran for Secretary of Finance, alleged she was sabotaged by rivals who exploited tribal affiliations.

However, her opponent, Adikini Florence, denied the claims, insisting her victory was legitimate.

Some senior NRM members have urged the party’s top leadership to organise elections for key positions, including Secretary General and Treasurer, to ensure transparency.

The elections, held in Mugalu, Kijwa, Katongole, and Bukasa zones, saw the following winners
